If you’re experiencing slow drains or backed up water in your sinks and tub, you probably have a stoppage or a clog somewhere in your sewer system.
And more than just an annoyance, a clogged drain could be a sign of a more serious problem in your sewer line. If after trying simple methods like pulling hair out of your sink or using a plunger doesn’t fix the problem, it’s time to call a licensed plumbing company like In-House.
Diagnosing Your Sewer Stoppage Problem
Sometimes we can tell where the stoppage is based solely on what is backing up. For instance, if there’s a slow drain in the bathroom sink and nowhere else, it’s most likely hair and other bathroom gunk.
But not all drain stoppages can be found that easily, especially if you have recurring stoppages. This is when we might use a sewer camera to inspect your pipes.
Common Causes of Sewer Drain Clogs
- Hair
- Grease and food
- Soap and shampoo residue
- Tree roots
- Flushable wipes
- Feminine products
- Broken sewer lines
- Bellied sewer lines
Can You Fix a Drain Clog Yourself?
Maybe. But whatever you do, do not use a chemical drain cleaner like Liquid Plumber or Drano. These products contain chemicals that will damage your pipes.
If it’s a minor clog and all you have to do is pull hair out of the p-trap, that’s probably something you can handle yourself. But for recurring stoppages or something more serious like tree roots, we would not recommend you doing this yourself. You could cause more damage to your pipes and hurt yourself as well.
Sewer Drain Cleaning
Depending on the where the stoppage is and what is causing it, we will most likely use a sewer cleaning machine.
We have various sizes of sewer cleaning machines. Smaller machines clean out smaller stoppages and larger machines, larger ones.
In-House Plumbing Company has been fixing slow drains and providing sewer drain cleaning services for homeowners in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex since 2001.
